Become a Nanny through TFA
As a Nanny through The Family Assistant you work in the home of one family and care for the children. You bring rhythm, calm and attention to their day, exactly as the parents have in mind and with your professional knowledge added.
You do not work with a full group, but with one family you get to know inside out. That leaves room for real attention and for your own initiative.

What does a Nanny do?
A Nanny carries the daily care for the children in the family she works with. That goes further than babysitting: you guard the daily rhythm, you support the children in their development and you make sure everything around them is in order.
- Caring for the children, from baby to school age.
- Taking them to and from school, sport and appointments.
- Guarding the daily rhythm: meals, sleep, homework and downtime.
- Cooking healthy meals.
- Keeping the children's laundry, clothing and rooms in order.
- Coming up with activities that suit their age and interests.
- Noticing what a child needs and discussing it with the parents.
A day as a Nanny
You start when the family starts: among the school bags and the sandwiches, or quietly at the beginning of the morning when a little one is still at home. During the day you have the youngest around you, the children's laundry goes along and dinner is ready on time. Around three you are at the school gate, you hear how the day went, you help with homework and you get everyone to sport on time.
At the end of the day the house is tidy, the parents know how the children are doing and you know what tomorrow holds. No two days are the same, and still there is a steady line running through them. That calm is exactly what children rely on.

What we ask of you
- A child related qualification, for example in childcare, teaching assistance, primary education or nursing.
- Experience with children of different ages and a feel for what they need.
- A valid first aid certificate or the willingness to obtain one, and a certificate of conduct.
- A driving licence, because you often drive to school, sport and appointments.
- Discretion: what you see and hear in the house stays there.
- A flexible, thoughtful attitude and a presentable appearance.
- The wish to commit to a family for several years.
- A service mindset: taking work off a family's hands is your passion, and you pick up what is needed, also when nobody asks.
From childcare to the nanny profession
Many of our Nannies previously worked at a day care centre, in after school care or in education. That experience is invaluable: you know how children develop and how to bring structure.
The difference is the setting. You work in a home instead of on a group, with one family instead of changing children, and you get more responsibility and independence. In return there is a higher salary and the calm of a steady place.
The difference with a Family Assistant
A Nanny focuses on the children; a Family Assistant on the whole household, from the calendar and groceries to administration. In practice the roles sometimes overlap. Not sure which suits you? Read about becoming a Family Assistant as well.
Terms of employment and salary
You are employed by the family, with a full employment contract. You are socially insured, you continue to be paid when ill and you are entitled to holidays and holiday pay. That is deliberately different from the Dutch domestic services scheme many nannies work under.
The indication is between € 3,500 and € 4,500 gross per month based on 40 hours, depending on your education, your experience and the flexibility the role asks for. Read more about the terms of employment.
Training and support
Before you start you follow the TFA Academy, our online training on parenting, discretion, hospitality, etiquette and the way we work. It includes access to the masterclasses by child psychologist Tischa Neve. After that you are not on your own: you have a dedicated coach at TFA. Read more about the TFA Academy.
