Frequently asked questions about working at TFA
The questions we hear most from Nannies, Family Assistants and Personal Assistants, with an honest answer. Is your question not there? Call or email us.

Am I employed or self employed?
Employed. You sign an employment contract with the family or the company where you will work. That means you are socially insured, you continue to be paid when ill and you are entitled to holidays and holiday pay.
What do I earn as a Nanny or Family Assistant?
The indication is between € 3,500 and € 4,500 gross per month based on 40 hours, depending on your education, experience and the flexibility the role asks for. With fewer hours the salary is calculated pro rata.
Do I need a diploma?
Yes. For the role of Nanny we ask for a child related qualification, for example in childcare, teaching assistance, primary education or nursing. For Personal Assistant we ask for a recognised qualification, for example from Schoevers, and demonstrable experience as a Personal Assistant. For Family Assistant we mainly look at experience in an organising role.
How long do I commit to a family?
We match for the long term and ask you to commit to the family for several years. That way the children keep a familiar face and you have a steady place with room to grow. If you are looking for something temporary, we are probably not a match.
Can I work part time?
Yes. Many families are looking for someone for 24 to 32 hours, others for a full working week. Each vacancy states how many hours it concerns and how the days are divided.
What do I learn in the TFA Academy?
The Academy is our online training: modules, assignments and quizzes about the way TFA works, your tasks as a Nanny or Family Assistant, child development, family planning, discretion, setting boundaries, hospitality and etiquette, healthy food and safety. It also gives you access to the masterclasses by child psychologist Tischa Neve.
What does it cost me to work through TFA?
Applying, the introduction and the screening cost you nothing; the family pays for our service. For the TFA Academy, our online training, you pay a one off fee. You pay that only after you have signed a contract with a family. So you never pay for the training without work to go with it.
Which documents do I need to provide?
Your CV, two recent references, your diplomas, a valid certificate of conduct and a first aid certificate. If you do not have a certificate of conduct or first aid certificate yet, we help you obtain one.
How long does the procedure take?
Usually two to three weeks, from the first conversation to your start with a family. That depends on how quickly your references respond and on when a suitable family comes along.
Do I need to speak English?
Not always, but it helps. Some of our families are international or raise their children bilingually. Where it is required, the vacancy states so.
Do I live with the family?
Usually not. Most roles are live out: you work during the day and go home afterwards. With some families a live in situation or travelling during holidays is part of the role. That is always stated in the vacancy.
What if the match turns out not to fit?
Then we discuss it with you and with the family. We stay involved after you start and, if needed, look for a solution together or for a new place for you.
Another question?
Ask away. We answer within a few working days.
