How do you become a high end nanny? Your experience as a qualified childcare professional is worth its weight in gold
Written by Naomi Plijnaar, Founder TFA

Do you have a background as a qualified childcare professional? Then you are much further along the road to a career as a high end nanny than you think. Read how you can stand out.
Not everyone makes a good nanny, but you have a head start
There is a big difference between someone who looks after a child and a true professional who guides a child in his or her development. Parents are looking for the latter. And that is exactly what you are if you have worked in childcare or education for years.
Your knowledge of developmental psychology, your experience with setting boundaries and positive guidance, your ability to observe and anticipate: that is precisely what families look for in a nanny of the highest calibre.
What makes a nanny truly good?
The best nannies combine a love of children with professional knowledge and skills. They communicate openly with parents, notice early on when something is not right and know how to create a safe, stimulating environment. They are reliable, consistent and always put the child first.
Your diplomas and certificates are immediately valuable
An MBO or HBO diploma (Dutch vocational or higher professional education) in child development, education or care is highly sought after in the nanny world. Many families place great value on formal qualifications, especially when it comes to young children or children with additional support needs.
Do you also have first aid certificates, a driving licence or experience with children with special care needs? Then you are an even more attractive candidate.
How to build your nanny career
Start by building a strong profile: make sure you have references from previous employers, write a professional motivation and tell us during an intake meeting which type of family suits you best. Choose deliberately: would you like to work for a young family with babies and toddlers, or with older children? Would you like to work part time or full time?
Our agency helps you find the right match with families looking for your specific profile.
Grow as a nanny
Many nannies progress to senior roles, such as principal nanny, head nanny or nanny manager in large families or international households. Your start as a qualified childcare professional can be the beginning of a wonderful career in a sector that is growing larger and more professional all the time.
