Family Assistant wanted for a warm and lively family in Amsterdam

For a warm, sociable and friendly family in Amsterdam we are looking for a caring and committed Family Assistant who would like to become a real part of a family's daily life. Someone who sees children for who they are, brings warmth and calm, and at the same time enjoys humour, liveliness and a house where friends and family regularly join the table.
The family is a mother and her two children, aged 11 and 9. Their father died last year, after a longer period of illness. Although that has of course had a great impact, there is plenty of room in this family for lightness, humour and good company. They are positive, they like being together and they enjoy having people around them.
The mother is looking for a Family Assistant who can stand beside her and support her in a natural way. A warm, independent professional who connects with the children, sees what is needed and makes sure home feels good and well organised.
About the family
The children are sociable, sporty and used to an active life. The eldest is a boy of 11 who loves being outdoors, plays hockey and rides horses. His sister of 9 enjoys hockey, riding, singing, crafts and seeing her friends.
Both of them may hold back a little at first and find it important that someone takes the time to build a real bond with them.
Your role as a Family Assistant
The children are at school during the day, so your role is broader than caring for them alone. You support the mother in daily family life and help to create calm, order and continuity.
You are someone who sees for herself what is needed. You do not wait until each task is asked of you, but pick things up pleasantly and independently. At the same time the mother likes to stay involved in the bigger picture, so working together openly and naturally matters here.
What you will be doing includes:
- Collecting the children from school and taking them to sport, riding and other activities;
- Being there for the children after school, warmly and attentively;
- Helping with homework where needed;
- Cooking for the family; enjoying cooking is certainly a plus;
- Light household and organising work, such as folding the laundry and keeping bedrooms tidy;
- Thinking along about the family diary and keeping an overview of it;
- Making sure the house stays pleasant and tidy during the day;
- Actively helping with the daily care of the pets and the practical work that comes with it, so that the mother is relieved of that too.
There is domestic help, so the emphasis is not on heavy cleaning. The family does appreciate someone who naturally likes a well kept and tidy home.
A lively household
Besides the children, the animals are an important part of this family. There are two dogs and two cats. There is a dog walking service, but helping with the care of the animals is an important part of the role.
The family is therefore looking for someone who genuinely loves animals, is happy to roll up her sleeves and sees for herself what is needed. Someone for whom it goes without saying to take responsibility here too and to support the mother practically.
Riding also plays an important part in this family. Both children ride, so an affinity with horses is a welcome addition. Experience with horses is not a requirement, but it does matter that you feel comfortable around them.
The family also likes to spend time in Zeeland, at weekends and during holidays. They are looking for someone who enjoys travelling along with them now and then and sees that as a pleasant part of the role.
Who are we looking for?
Above all this family is looking for someone with a warm personality and good energy. You are kind, positive and have a sense of humour. You connect well with children and find it important to build trust first.
You are also independent and full of initiative. You see what a household needs, think ahead and enjoy giving support both practically and around the children. You sense well when you can act on your own and when it is better to check in with the mother.
You have an affinity with animals and find it natural to help with their daily care as well. You are flexible, reliable and at home in a lively household where no two days are quite the same.
Practical information
This is a position of around 30 hours a week, spread over Monday to Thursday. The core hours are during the day, roughly between 12.00 and 18.00. In addition you are asked, by arrangement, to be available longer on two evenings, until around 22.00. Occasionally there may be a need for support at a weekend.
The role starts in January 2027 and the family is explicitly looking for someone for the long term. The intention is a working relationship of around four years.
There is a cargo bike for taking the children around and it is important that you can ride one. A driving licence is strongly preferred, partly for outings and trips to Zeeland. Your own car is not needed.
The salary indication for this role is €3,500 to €4,500 gross per month based on a 40 hour week, depending on your experience and background.
